Incredible Edible Alwoodley gets off the ground!

Local Alwoodley residents worked together with Incredible Edible Leeds' Dan & Gemma today to build the group's first planter, quite literally getting Incredible Edible Alwoodley off the ground.

The planter is located by the war memorial on King Lane, in a visible spot near local schools & on one of the main roads through the community.  A team of four local residents worked together to build the planter & fill it with 3 tonnes of soil. It will soon be joined by two more planters, which will be constructed & filled with soil all ready for sowing seeds & growing once spring arrives.

Lead volunteer Sarann lives locally and said: 'It was great fun building the planters today, we learnt new skills & most of all it helps us to meet new people in the community.  We are looking forward to local people harvesting the first produce this year & hopefully feeling inspired to give growing their own a try'.

Incredible Edible Alwoodley is one of 16 sites around Leeds that have been enabled to get off the ground with support from Incredible Edible Leeds (map), which along with funding from the National Lottery received one of Climate Action Leeds' Small Grants last summer to help the project to expand.
