Local Alwoodley residents worked together with Incredible Edible Leeds' Dan & Gemma today to build the group's first planter, quite literally getting Incredible Edible Alwoodley off the ground.
The planter is located by the war memorial on King Lane, in a visible spot near local schools & on one of the main roads through the community. A team of four local residents worked together to build the planter & fill it with 3 tonnes of soil. It will soon be joined by two more planters, which will be constructed & filled with soil all ready for sowing seeds & growing once spring arrives.
Lead volunteer Sarann lives locally and said: 'It was great fun building the planters today, we learnt new skills & most of all it helps us to meet new people in the community. We are looking forward to local people harvesting the first produce this year & hopefully feeling inspired to give growing their own a try'.
Incredible Edible Alwoodley is one of 16 sites around Leeds that have been enabled to get off the ground with support from Incredible Edible Leeds (map) https://edibleleeds.org.uk/map/, which along with funding from the National Lottery received one of Climate Action Leeds' Small Grants last summer to help the project to expand.
