Climate Justice
Not all people are equally responsible for causing climate change. Likewise, the effects of the changing climate don't impact everyone in the same way. Addressing this - and achieving greater equity, representation, and agency for groups which have been historically excluded or disproportionately harmed by climate events - is essential to achieving the "just transition" which is often referred to.

What's happening in Leeds?
West Yorkshire's Racial Justice Network (RJN) is a "Black and migrant-led charity with a bold vision to end racial injustice and address the legacies of colonialism through holistic, economic, environmental, spiritual and cultural relief, repair and transformation".
RJN was the original climate justice partner for the CAL Partnership, delivering important insights and outputs throughout their role. RJN decided to leave the Partnership in summer 2024 - details of which are here - but the organisation continues to work on climate justice among many other vital issues.
Subsequent to RJN's departure, the Partnership was fortunate to have Claude Hendrickson MBE take on the climate justice role. Claude utilised his years of experience and knowledge to provide guidance and support to CAL's work and played a crucial role in building connections with more diverse communities in Leeds.

Claude has continued to work with Imagine Leeds and the CAL Network, both of which are striving to implement past learning and to continue to learn, to help ensure that climate conversations and actions in Leeds are truly representative of, and benefit from, the diverse perspectives and experiences across the city.
