What is it?

The Climate Action Leeds (CAL) Network is made up of local organisations and community groups across our city. It is for groups to connect, collaborate, share learning, and advocate, all with the goal of furthering community-led climate action. 

 

The Network is facilitated by Voluntary Action Leeds, a charity that supports communities by helping people and organisations that do good in Leeds. The Network's direction comes from a steering group which is made up of reps from its members. 

 

The draft proposal for how the Network will operate is here. If you think you'd like to be involved, please read and send your thoughts or suggested changes to us - we want to ensure that the CAL Network is best placed to serve the interests of communities.

Any local group is welcome to become a member of the CAL Network. Your group doesn't need to have expertise on the environment, or a track record of climate action - just some interest in contributing to positive change in our city.

That's important, because we know the word "climate" might make some people feel that this isn't for them. In reality, we know that action which so many people do want to be involved with - making new connections, dealing with cost-of-living challenges, pride in your neighbourhood, opportunities for children, knowing that politicians are hearing your views, and so on - come with benefits for the climate we all live in.

It could be a project to transform some wasteland into a community garden which everyone can enjoy; an opportunity to learn new skills which could help provide fresh fruit and veg for families; a way to repair or swap items to prolong their life and cut costs ... All of these show how "climate action" connects with efforts to improve everyday life.

 

We want the CAL Network to represent people all across Leeds, so we can continue to learn together and help to bring about positive change within our city and beyond.
