Climate Action Leeds is looking for 'Critical Friends'

Updated: May 26, 2022

If you are passionate about climate justice and want to help make Leeds become a net zero, more equal city, we want you to become a ‘Critical Friend’ to Climate Action Leeds.

We need ‘Critical Friends’ to join our Independent Scrutiny Panel. You’d look at what is happening already in the project, and whether it is doing things the right way. You’d join an independent group who give their views about how well we’re doing and make suggestions for how we could do better.

The Independent Scrutiny Panel meet twice a year. They have an independent Chair, and the meetings are organised by Voluntary Action Leeds. At each meeting, you’d hear from the organisations who deliver the project and give your outside & additional perspectives.

We want a panel who represent Leeds, so we are keen to hear from people with a diverse range of backgrounds. You don’t need to have a degree or any special type of experience: if you have an interest in climate action and want to work towards climate justice, we’d like to hear from you.

You are likely to hear about:

· key programme learning,

· wider engagement / communication about Climate Action Leeds,

and

· success stories or case studies.

We recognise the valuable contribution volunteer panel members make. Panel members who give their time would be thanked with a supermarket shopping voucher as a way of showing our gratitude. Meetings currently take place on Zoom.

Tasks

o To hear updates from community-led climate actions, and to provide your responses and feedback;

o To monitor the progress of Climate Action Leeds generally;

o To make suggestions for how the project could be better;

o To monitor diversity within the project.

Role

o To read the papers prepared by the Climate Action Leeds team ahead of panel meetings.

o To take part in the next panel meeting, 10-12 on Tuesday 12th July.

o To participate in additional, short meetings to discuss specific topics, if you & other panel members agree these are needed.

If you are interested in being involved in the Independent Scrutiny Panel as one of our ‘Critical Friends’, please send an email to Sarah Bradley-Adam, Project Co-ordinator, Voluntary Action Leeds by 10th of June. Sarah.bradley-adam@val.org.uk or phone 0113 2977920.
