About the Event
As part of the Climate Action Leeds Launch: Think Global, Act Local, Start Now, and alongside Extinction Rebellion Leeds and Our Future Leeds - we invite you to come together in solidarity with a group of Spanish activists walking to the 2021 UN Conference on Climate Change (COP26) in Glasgow and to show Leeds' commitment to climate action.
This event is suitable for everyone across Leeds; whether you're involved in any climate movements or not! There will be a talks from the Lord Mayor and the Children’s Mayor, live music from a samba band and a steel band, interactive stalls and fun for all the family!
Find us in the car park area outside 189 Chapeltown Rd, LS7 3DU.
Outline schedule for the day:
- 10.00 - Marcha a Glasgow walkers set off from Millennium Square
- 10.30 - Walkers and samba band reach Norma Hutchinson park to march from there to Mexborough Drive
- 10.55 - Walkers and samba band enter the main area to be greeted by the Lord mayor
- 11.00 - Lord Mayor address
- followed by speeches from the Marcha a Glasgow walkers, the Children's Mayor, an 'Eco Sikh', a Youth striker and more
- 11.45 - March to the Sikh Temple accompanied by the band to see the picture and poetry competition
- 12.00 - The Sikh Temple kindly hosts a communal lunch
- 13.00 - Walkers and cyclists set off to Harrogate
- 14.00 - Event continues until 2 - 3pm weather dependant
This display of solidarity is all about raising awareness of the 2021 UN Conference on Climate Change and bringing together Leeds' communities to demonstrate city-wide action.
