Food
Did you know the food system contributes about 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions and industrial farming is the leading cause of the decline of wildlife in the UK, antibiotic resistance and zoonotic diseases? Additionally, 1/3 of the food we produce goes to waste.

What's happening in Leeds?
FoodWise Leeds is the sustainable food partnership for the city. Our aim is to create a healthy, sustainable and fair food system for everyone in Leeds.
During the CAL project FoodWise focused on three key areas to help build a better food system for Leeds.
-
Developing local food policy
-
Co-producing the Leeds Food Strategy
with Leeds City Council (2023 -2030)
-
-
Reducing household food waste
-
Co-creating 10 community composting sites
-
-
Building a good food movement through campaigns
-
#GetGrowingLeeds inspiring people to start growing some of their own food
-
#JustOneMore encouraging Leeds to eat more veg every day
-
In Leeds there are many active food citizens working together in communities creating community gardens, orchards and compost sites, sharing food and growing skills and knowledge, supporting local producers and food businesses and eating more plant-based meals. FoodWise will continue to celebrate and amplify these collective actions.
